Ok ,This may be an odd question. Has anybody kept a white shrimp as part of a cuc? These shrimp are usually for eating! However here in coastal Florida they are often used as live bait for fishing. Iv'e kept them in a local fauna tank before. They burrow in the sand, they pick at the rock and such. I just never trusted them around corals. Has anybody tried this?

I have local to me, long island sound sand/grass shrimp. I actually qtd mine in an invert qt prior to adding to the tank. But I have them in my sump only. Had some in tank with many different corals no problems. To small though, I think my wrasse eventually picked them off so only have in sump now. Good cleaners, that's why I have them. Idk if they are the same as your or not, maybe a smaller version. I would certainly qt them prior to adding. Many will flame this thread probably, but to each his own.

Edited for spell check, might make more sense now. Lol

Thanks Trigg! A little flaming just makes the place more interesting! I pay top dollar for snails that can't even right themselves! I can get a dozen of these for a couple bucks. Here is a link , I think

Not trying to change the subject but if you live on the coast you can collect your own Peppermint shrimps, I do it here in NC. That's if you wanted too. On the contrary I have never thought about keeping green tails in my tank, no telling what they could take a liking to.

Hello Gitrite So they call them greentails up your way. My concern also is what they might like to eat. Pepermint shrimps in NC, interesting!

If you qt them for a while, you can always leave an acan frag in with them and see what happens. My guess Is they will rob corals of food, but probably not actually eat the coral.

I agree, I bet the stinging cells taste bad. If I do this I surely would Qt the shrimp. No telling whats in those tanks at the bait store/fishcamp. Also I'd like to hear more about how Gitrite collects peppermint shrimps up in NC. I'd like to add be very careful adding animals from the wild to your tank. No telling what they may bring along with them!

I live in Florida as well and have been keeping the white shrimp for about a month now and I’ve had no problems with them messing with my fish or corals! They do get ridiculously big though!
