I have a 15g ATO storage tank, with a 500gph power head inside. It builds algae on the supply hose to the tank and in the storage tank it self. This is a center issue to diatoms on my sand and phosphate build up in my water. I pulled the system and now am manually topping off my tank. What do I need to do to stop the algae from producing? Prim just isn't enough. Can It be light?

Do you keep a lid on your storage bucket. Algae will not grow without light. I keep mine covered with no issues.

Just get a 5 gallon bucket with a lid from home depot.

well I would ditch the tap water most areas have high TDS in tap water along with who knows what else. I would pick up a RO/DI unit from BRS they have sales on them from time to time and in the long run you will be much happier this is the one I have 5 Stage PLUS RO/DI System - 75GPD - Bulk Reef Supply and I have in my basement feeding an 18 gal pressurized thank that feeds my ice maker my drinking water at the kitchen sink and into the DI that feeds my top off and where I also get all the water for all my tank.

Using tap water, all you have there with your ATO, is a phosphate doser and algae feeder for your tank. I think a reverse osmisis (with deionized resin) filter should be one of the first pieces of equipment purchased, if you plan on keeping a salt water tank long term.
