I am going out of town for 4 days and only have a 5 gallon container for ATO. I want to get a bigger container and have found someone that has 15 gallon containers that used to store pickled garlic cloves. Will this be ok to use, if there is some residue left inside? Any help is appreciated!

I would think it's ok, should have only had vinegar and garlic in it. Which is used in this hobby. Give it a good cleaning and make sure there's nothing funky. Also make sure it's food grade container so nothing leaches from it.

I got some 5 dollar pickle buckets from firehouse sub for 2 bux never got the pickle smell out of it bleach didn't even phase it even today still smells like pickles so good luck with that :-)

I know of people that put a 15 to 20 gal aquarium next to their tank for ATO when they are going to be gone for an extend period of time.

Do you use it? It is a food grade container, does anyone think it may leach into the ro/di water?

Thays what I was trying to say it makes the water smell like pickles even just using the top from it makes a brand new bucket smell

Just get a brute trash can. They are handy for large water changes and tank transfers/disasters. If ur in this hobby long enough ull experience em all. Plus they serve as good ro reservoirs in your garage or in another room.

Why are you putting the pickle lid on new buckets? I think you are addicted to making things smell of pickles.

How big is your tank? 5 gallons doesn't last 4 days? I wouldn't use the container if it smells like pickles. At a minimum, it needs a good cleaning prior to use.
