Overnight my ATO safety valve failed and about 5 litres of RO was pumped into my nano. Luckily the aquarium didn’t overflow and the safety valve managed to fix itself before my flat was flooded.

Unfortunately my aquariums salinity is now 25 ppm. How quickly can I safely bring this up to normal levels. Will my fish and corals survive? Luckily all the animals are looking fine, my palys are extending more then usual actually. The clown is acting rather sluggish tho.

God I hate ATOs, such stressful things.

I would think you’ll need to bring it back up slowly, like over the course of a few days or a week.

I’ve had a salinity drop, but it was likely gradual — b/c my refractometer fell out of calibration. By the time I realized it was in response to corals doing poorly and dying, and my sg was 1.020. I brought it back up slowly and the fish and inverts were fine, it was the corals that suffered.

Saltwater in a (working) auto top off should bring it up gradually.
Fish and softies should be fine. I should think some LPS will be okay. Acros will not tolerate it.

Ok great, thanks for the help, that’s eased my mind. I’ve figured out the problem and replaced the broken valve, so hopefully it won’t happen again.
Good idea! I’ll fill the ATO with saltwater and let it gradually increase in salinity. Luckily my tank is softy dominated and everything looks fine with the change so far. My only lps is a Goni and it seems unchanged right now :)
