ATO high water alarm went off...

My Tunze 3155 ATO high water alarm went off last night. PANIC! I faintly heard it from the basement and ran upstairs to check. Everything looked fine. I checked the float switch and a dang nerite had crawled up sensor and was pushing the float up.

I hated that mine would go off when I turned off the return pump so I pulled it out. My sump has enough room to handle the return pump being off. There is a risk of the ATO pump being stuck on but the Tunze does have an auto shut off timer. But now you got me thinking maybe I should it back on but set it up really high in the sump.

I put a snail guard on my sensor.
Never had that problem again.
I little piece of plastic to protect the sensor.
Not sure why the manufacturer don’t include this.

But now you got me thinking maybe I should it back on but set it up really high in the sump.

That's what I did. I put it just above the high water mark when the return pump is off.

I have an AIO with a mesh lid, zero chance of a snail getting back there. The tunze has both an optical sensor and a float sensor. It also shuts off after a few minutes. If I had that alarm going off every time I put feed mode on my pump to feed or when I do a water change I would likely throw the whole tank out of the window lol. Everyone has different levels of tolerance. I cannot stand that sound and I can't imagine having to listen to it all of the time. I'm completely comfortable with the Tunze ATO's built in redundancy.

There's an ATO have plastic cover for protecting floating sensors.
