See a lot of mixed feelings on this topic and was wondering peoples opinions and why they prefer to have the ATO water added to the DT or the sump?

That’s what I thought lol but there are ppl out there that experience overfilling in the sump do to siphon effect and argue DT is a better option. I chose to add into sump and occasionally do get slightly over filled due to that however It’s not enough to cause a swing in my salinity so Really, there are mixed feelings? Almost everyone I know would add ATO water into the sump if they had the option. A big draw to a sump is being able to hide unsightly equipment. If I had the choice to place an optical sensor, a float valve, and a ATO tube holder in a display tank or sump, it would definitely be the sump!

That’s where I put mine also!Sump. If I didnt have decent flow in my sump I would still use the sump. Return chamber all day.
Your on topic in my case if you look at my build thread my ATO container when full is higher level then my sump and had a slight siphon effect at first but made some adjustments to eliminate that. I guess ppl figure if they had it in the DT area there would be no chance for a siphon effect period thus a safer option but for me I did not want the eye sore of seeing everything in the DT maybe some ppl can live with it. I was just curious on trial and error and opinions from others is all.I was under the impression that a siphon happens if the reservoir is higher than the actual are that the top of flows into. If that’s actually true, wouldn’t having the reservoir at the same level as your sump completely eliminate this risk? Or am I completely off base
