ATO in refugium?

So I recently bought a ATO and refugium for my 55 gallon tank which has no sump so I decided these would be good additions to this tank my salinity also raises really quick high evaporating rate. I was wondering if I am able to put the ATO sensor in the refugium?

No because the HOB fuge will stay a constant water level being that it is supplied by a pump. That is sitting multiple inch’s under water.
