Hi folks,
I am looking to put an automatic top off system in my basement, I am looking for reefers feedback on reliable ato pumps that can lift 10 to 12 feet or so. It's too high for an aqualifter, so I am assuming either a diaphragm or peristaltic pump (x2) will be required? I am looking for long term reliablilty (motor). I don't mind keeping spare parts for rebuildable pumps (I would prefer that), but some reviews I see have the motors burning out in a short time period.
If you are happy with your ato pump, and it has the head capability I need, I would love to hear from you,

Thanks and cheers!

What size sump you roping off?

Hi!

I will be using something in the neighborhood of a 20 to 30 gallon rodi reservoir in the basement, pumping around 10 to 12 feet up to a 20 gallon sump. My makeup water rate is about a gallon per day on the most demanding days, maybe 1/2 gallon on an average day.

Thanks!

I would think you'd use float valves on your controller and then use a pump large enough to pump the top off to your tank. JMO

Hi. Yes, I will be using float switches in my sump to control the top off pump(s). It's basically what I do now.... what I am looking for is what pumps do people use and are happy with?

Thanks!

Thanks! Do you use one, and are you happy with it? Any issues with it?

Thanks again.

Yes I use them but not to push water from basement. If memory serves it can handle up to 18 feet of head pressure. Keep a spare around as they do wear out eventually but are reasonably priced. Very happy with them, they are a little noisy but perfect for a basement.

You can link Aqualifters to get more distance in case that seems like a good option.

The Avast should do the job, but a little expensive if it wears out as quick as the Aqualifter. I dunno.

A peristaltic pump may be the best option.

Well, "better" would be having a small reservoir of RODI near the tank rather than a large reservoir far away....

But if you have to do the far away thing, a peristaltic pump would be my choice.

Check out APT Instruments' Peristaltic Pumps in case you need more options.
