One of the things that I am looking at eventually adding to my tank is an ato. I know that usually the ato will deliver top off water to the sump. I do not have a sump with my system so trying to figure out what type of system would work and be my best option. I am thinking it would be best to probably stay away from float valves with it being in the main tank. I am also hoping to find something that will not be too obtrusive.

Look at the Tunze Osmolator. I used one in the past on a frag tank that didn't have a sump. It has an optical sensor vs a float switch, so not too much variance. They do come with a magnetic mount now that's great.

Thank you Bill will check that one out.

Any other suggestions that people may have?

I thought it's a pretty good idea, and I just might try it!

a jug, a toms aqualifter and a timer that you can control the minutes. looking at maybe 30 for the setup. you program the timer by adding a minute everyday until tank is where you want it everyday.

with the toms aqualifter would I be able to get the water up to the tank? Would need to move the water up to about 4 feet. No place on the stand to place anything next to the tank and trying not to place any type of surface like a table next to it either since my youngest cat would probably use it as a platform to get onto the top of the tank.

Yeah, I've seen this done with a bucket and aqualifter on the ground just drilled a small hole in the lid n put the air hose through and the aqualifter was run off of a rkl to run for short periods of time a few times a day to keep it super stable.

Or if you have no controller you could go to auto top off dot con and look at their systems. I used one on my solana before I got a controller and paired it with an aqua lifter pump and it has worked well for me.

Thanks Chris, checking into it, have no controller for the tank so this might work well. When you used this on your solana did you do a single or double float valve? From looking at the description if I am understanding it correctly the double switch valve gives you the back up if the first one fails and would turn off the ato? Price wise do like better, although the Tunze Osmolator does look slick.

Also was wondering if anyone has used the Avast Marine ato? Any opinions on this ato system? How is the profile on it?

I used the double float. I am looking at other options right noe for Ye new tank. The Tunze is by far a much better product but the price is a bit rich. I have been considering the Avast product as well.

Chris, your solana was sumpless correct. What was the height that the aqua lifter was moving the water?

Sumpless in the fact that there was no remote sump however there was a false wall in the back of the tank as it is an AIO system. The aqua lifter is moving water approximately 4' with no issues whatsoever.

Thanks, sounds like it should work. Trying to not have any surfaces near the tank that the younger cat can use to get onto the top of the tank. Hoping that once I decide what I want to do for my lighting and get that upgraded want to figure out how to do a screen top for the tank. Just wouldn't be able to do so if the cat was able to get to the top.
