Almost had a major flood on my hardwwod floor. Problem: ATO pump shut off like it was suppose to (aqua lifter) but the water kept flowing. Anyone have a quick fix for this?

Hello,

There is a machine on the market call LCS-14 Leak Controller that attaches to 1/4" R/O tubing and has a sensor that detects leaks, when it does, it will close the R/O line and will start buzzing to alert you about it.

I hope this helps,
Eddie

Thank Eddie, I will look this up. If I were to flood my living room my wife would have the tank gone before I could get home..........

It's my understanding that that pump is not supposed to allow a siphon but I wonder if perhaps a piece of debris might be holding the diaphragm open.

Harry,

actually teh Aqualifter pumps will Siphon in teh direction of wate flow thru them when running. mine does this. because of that, i had to place the discharge higher than the full water level in my reservoir. Aqualifter pumps are nice and do a good job but be prepared to replace them annually as they do detioriate. or know how to clean and repair the valves in them. I need to do mine this weekend anyways....

My old system was Gravity and I never had issues. but its hard to hoist 55 gallons these days.

Well then that sounds like the problem.

These days? Always has been a bit of a struggle for me to hoist 55 gallons.

I also have the discharge end of my aqualifter located higher than the water level of my top off container. My top off container is sitting on the floor next to my sump so it's not a gravity feed situation, either.

It's not difficult to take apart and clean an aqualifter. It takes more than a couple of minutes, though. For some reason, my aqualifter choses to clog up just as I leave for work or run out the door in a hurry.

If I am in a hurry, I just run weak muriatic acid (one part acid to 10 part water) through my aqualifter to clean it instead of taking the aqualifter apart. I stick the inlet tubing into a small cup of the acid solution, let the solution run through the aqualifter, and catch the solution into a separate cup from the outlet tubing. Since I always have a container of the acid solution handy for other cleaning (powerheads, pumps, and what not), I am done with acid cleaning in the matter of 30 seconds.

Goot tip on the muratic acid. mine has gotten to the point where it is having trouble lifting when the water gets below 1/2 way in the tub.

Don't use an ato?

H@rry and others. I could never lift 55g (400+ pounds). ya'll must have been much stronger then me when younger.

Got it figured out gents. I put the dicharge higher than the ato bucket and it stoped like pickupman said. I also cleaned the pump and found a small piece of ? in it . Works Great now.
