ATO Pump that goes OUTSIDE the reservoir?

I've got a JBJ ATO. I have a large glass vase that holds about 12 gallons of water I'd like to use as a reservoir. However, while the vase itself is large, the opening is not. I can't find a pump small enough to fit in there. I've heard about a "diaphragm pump" - and my knowledge is very limited, but it seems like this pump does NOT need to go into the actual reservoir but I am not sure.

my question is - will that pump - or is there ANY pump that I can get that I can simply run a tube into my container, and then a tube OUT of the pump into the sump?!

I run a Toms Aqualifter controlled by the float switch. It is a diaphragm pump that sits outside with an intake hose.

I too use a Tom's Aqualifter and it works fine. Just as long as the reservoir isn't in the basement with the DT on the first floor. The only potential issue, using a JBJ, is that it might "time out" before enough water is pumped in. Make sure to adjust the timer all the way up....there are instructions online how to do that....simple.

I have a hob pump that sucks water in and exports it, can attach tubing to it and it would work fine. Look for something that has an inlet and outlet.

I need a Tom 's pump now. One of mine just gave out.
As I shop for them they are out of stock everywhere. Ebay has some. $60.00 to $120.00 same with Amazon. I think it was BRS site says Discontinued.
I hope that's not the case. But if so, that would explain the high price.
Having said that you can get a Tunze ato pump for $24.00. Im sure that will fit in your vase.

The Avast diaphragm pump that you linked to is extremely reliable and is strong enough to to pull from a basement reservoir if need be. It is on the louder side however, but that is the trade off for it being such a reliable heavy duty pump.

They are pretty simple and you can get parts to repair them. Sometimes I pump a bunch of vinegar through and it does a decent job of clearing it out.

I know you can buy diaphragms for them $20.00 a pair.
Mine look good but I haven't removed them to inspect them good. Mine has been on 24/7 for about 2 years.

That avast pump is awesome. I’ve got three of them. One failed due to user error and the avast guys repaired it for $10.
