So on a 40B could I get some reccomendations on a good ato that would be functional and non intrusive to my display?

There is a sumpless ato but it is an internal overflow box

Autoaqua smart ATO micro is tiny but it does have quite a blue light which may or may not be an issue to you.

I used a Tunze Osmolator on a 20L no sump. Worked great.

I went to like xpaqua ATOs but the one I have has had nothing but issues. Control unit died the first time and they sent me a new one. That one didnt last long and wont turn the pump on when water levels drop. Filling by hand multiple times a day sucks.

I've had my Osmolator running for 8yrs. Replaced the pump in yr 6.

I have and like the auto aqua smart micro ATO works great but like @Wee Mad Arthur said there is a blue light thet might bug you.

reefbreeders has a new interesting ATO out with 3 sensors in it. check that out too.
i found the tunze ATO pumps to be noisy, tried a cpl of them and it made a high pitched noise.

oh there are the hamster bottle ATOs too IDK if I would use one -well I cant get way to much evap here but its an option

Odd, I’ve had my Duetto going good for about 6 months so far down in my sump. I seemed to always get short lifes out of the Tunze 3152s.

I had it for about 9-10 months before the first fail. They very kindly replaced it and the new one disnt last long at all. I tried cleaning sensor but it's not dirty at all. When the water lvl drops the unit goes into fill mode but pump never turns on. Then after awhile it starts flashing and beeping.
