ATO return line into sump: which chamber?

My sump only has two chambers. The skimmer chamber and the return pump chamber. I know my float valves go into the return pump chamber, but what about the return line from the ATO? Can that go to the skimmer chamber without affecting my skimmer performance or should it go into the return pump chamber?
