I am going to need a ATO ( auto top off) for my new 50 gallon tank. I figure I have room for a 5 gallon reservoir.
I use a JBJ brand on my 240 now. On this one I'm thinking something like a 12v instead of 120v.
What are my options?

Try looking for the Reef Fanatic ATO, I've got a couple of them and really like them. You'll need an Aqua lifter or other small pump as a feed pump.

i use a double float switch from autotopoff.com - can't say enough good things about it. I've had 0 problems as of yet - just pick up a tom's aqualifter and you're set to go. If you do end up with a float switch make sure that it's a double float switch, you don't want an accidental flood.

tunze! had mine for years without a single issue. Still using the same feed pump it came with. The new ones have the magnetic sensor mount which is very adaptable to any configuration.

Pricy but worth it. I only have 1/8th of an inch fluctuation before the optical sensor kicks in and turbulence does not affect the sensor on mine either.

Tivo

tunze is the best but it is not cheep about 200 dollars

Are you running a controller? You could wire several float switches for redundancy and it would be cheap to add on.

That looks to be about the high end of my budget, but deff. doable

I just ordered one from Premium Aquatics. For the top it off premium kit plus a aqua lifter the price was about $52.00. That was the cheapest mid grade quality ATO I could find. I checked on reviews and didn't see anything bad about it. I'll let you know once I get it up and running. I got the one with 2 floats for safety.

Got the ATO.. If you have just a little diy in your blood you will have no problem getting this thing up and running in an hour or less. It seems to be working pretty well so far but its only been going a couple of days. The shipping and everything else was top notch and pretty quick too. If I have any problems or if you have any questions on setting it up, feel free to contact me and I'll do what I can.

Tunze osmolator here. I will not trust any other than that one
