What I was saying is point the camera at the tank. Put a pump in a big bucket of water. Plug the pump into a wifi enabled outlet (or whatever else can control the outlet).

Oh my. This might be brilliant. Lots of people use Kasa smart strips or smart plugs. Just need one along with a small pump. If you are used to manually topping anyway, this method while on vacation would be no different. In fact, I could see some people just doing this all the time, home or away. If you have a constant evaporation rate, you could set on/off times and get away with it.

That happens often with my WiFi strip. It might go unresponsive for a couple seconds.
