so i have a 20 gallon ato resevoir for my reefer 750xxl but for some reason everytime i fill it up couple of hours later my ato alarms goes off i look inot the sump and it is overfilled i have the tunze 3155 auto top by the way the resevoir is about 2 feet from the actual sump dont know why its siphoning back into the sump what can i do

Is the sump end of the hose from the ATO in the water or above it?

Like Ron said. If the end of the line in your sump is in the water/reservoir is above the water line of the sump it can siphon out. Are any of these the case?

The resevoir is taller than the sump but it’s more than 2 feet away the tube is in the water in the pump return section

Doesn't matter how far away it is, really. I've siphoned from a long way away from a system. Both of those things need to be corrected, reservoir shouldn't be higher than the sump or water can siphon out regardless of if the tube is touching the sump water.

And if it's lower than the sump and touching the water than water is likely to back siphon into your reservoir.

If the ATO reservoir is higher than the top of the sump the water will continue to "fall/syphon" into the sump. If this is the case the ATO needs to be at the same level or below the sump.

You also don't really want the ATO line under the water line in the sump but rather above it.

Exact2what he said. Looks like we both replied at the same time

Sap I need to get a smaller ato reservoir or try putting the the tube above the water line?
The size of the ATO will only be restricted by the space you have to store it, bigger the better, but the hose should be above the water yes. But more importantly the ATO should be level or below your sump, water always falls down. Once your ATO pump is triggered and the hose fills with water, then the pump goes off again the water will continue to fall / syphon down to the sump if the ATO is about the sump.

If you have a photo of the set up that will help us to explain better

You want the outlet of the ato line to look like this in your sump.
As others have said not under water.

Apologies for the bad artwork I'm on a moving bus. But if your set up is like the top pic it needs to be like the lower one. Hopefully this helps the explanation
