Can I get away with using an ATO sensor, IN the display tank? I've been topping off by hand for a year and I'm wondering how sensitive these optical eyes are to a little bit of surface agitation.
This is the most still section of my tank

If you put it in the DT just put it inside a tube or corral that isolates it from the surface action.

I have a sumpless system, so my Tunze ATO sensors are in the display tank. Never have the ATO kicks on due to surface agitation.

Disclaimer: my MP10s are in reefcrest mode, not pulse mode which can create big alternating waves.

Auto aqua has a kit with its own over flow, would solve that problem or like above stated it shield it from surface agitation

I like that kit, but I don't like all the stuff in the overflow box. Not needed in my case.

Check out Tunze ATO. It’s in my display tank with surface agitation, never got any problems.

Just saw the video (didn't see the attachment) any optical sensor will work with how little the water is being agitated in your tank. No need to get fancy

rimmed tank ? Did you have to drop your water level ?
Yes, my tank is rimmed and I already had the water level lowered because my tank gets a lot of surface agitation and I didn’t want water to jump over the tank. If your tank is full, you might need to take some water out.
