Hey reefers, I have a pair of clownfish in my tank. They have been model citizens since I got them about a year ago. Now, whenever I want to vacuum the sand, one of the clowns goes into attack mode. He jumps out of the water like a madfish trying to bite my hand, and bites even worse when I put my hand/arm in to move the gravel vac around. No blood has been drawn yet lol. The other clown pays no attention to me when I do this. The other thing I do is scrape the coralline off every so often with a razor. When I do this, neither one of them mess with me. Maybe they know I have a razor, I don’t know lol.

Any suggestions other than a long arm glove or longer vacuum? I don’t see him letting me vacuum the sand anytime soon.

so now they have became a matched pair more then likely one will be smaller (the male) and one is going to be larger much larger (the female). The male is the one attacking you correct? hes just protecting his home and woman.

my male will attack my hand anytime i come near there nems. will never stop with OCC clownfish Pair. on the plus side your clowns are now a pair male and female.

Yea, one of them is bigger than the other. I’ve read about the diamonds. I’ll have to check them out. Thanks!

just to note DO NOT BUY A GOBY if your not prepared for it to burrow all through your sand, Carry frags into its hole, carry hermits into its hole, rearragne your nice flat sand bed into a everchanging bed of dunes lol. you will never be able to place anything into the sand ever again without it getting burried. Plus youll never get it back outa your tank.

It's a hit or miss with clowns. I've had ones that don't bother me but the current ones I have does the exact same thing. I try to buy tools where I don't have to dip my whole arm into the tank.

I’ve read how they like to burrow in the sand and rearrange your scape lol. They are definitely interesting. As far as carrying frags, I had to glue them all down thanks to my urchin who is always looking for a new back pack lol

Yea, I’m glad I’m not the only one! I was thinking of getting a longer gravel vac if I can find one.

Its also possible that the female is pregnant or that they are about to have their first clutc h of eggs, but the odds of that are kinda low.

That would be really cool!
I want to breed my clowns when they mature in about a year. Ill put a lil flowerpot(empty) near their hiding place, and then check everyday. Once theres eggs, put it in a seperate QT and raise the fry. Maybe then sell or make clownfish harem tank.

hi,can try hand feeding pinch of flake now and then, sometimes will stop the attacking ,sometimes not :)
