I'm about two months into my new tank build, and I put my first corals in the tank about two weeks ago after completely cycling the tank. My problem is that about two days after putting in the corals and a few very small Nassarius snails my tank started growing clear slime on everything. This is my 4th reef tank, so I've seen this before, and usually only lasts few days, then it usually goes away and is replaced by photosynthetic algae, at which point I start adding in CUC. Well the slime phase has continued now for two weeks and I'm starting to get frustrated. I have to wash and bleach all my foam inserts in the sump every day as they clog up with slime. The corals are not happy as they get slapped with strands in the current, and it's growing on my Chaeto and Sea Lettuce in the sump.

Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite undetectable. Been doing daily small water changes. No feeding of the tank.

Should I go ahead and put in a CUC? Suggestions?

Here is the best I could do. Hard to get a pic of clear snot in water, so I enhanced what I could ;Hilarious

These are pictures of where it forms strings in the current. Low flow areas it just forms a sheet on the surfaces.

Are you running bio pellets or doing carbon dosing? Nonpox ?

What type of salt ?

Aside from a bacterial slime , the only other thing I could think of would be a type of chrystophytes.
Usually it’s not that stringy though.

Are you getting it in your sump?

Next though would be scented candles , air fresheners, hand sanitizers. Etc.

Cloudy blooms I’ve seen happen with basically no appearant sources, but a full slime is really odd.

Just had the same thing happen in a new tank that I just set up. Did a lot of reading and searching. I used Dr Tim's Refresh and Waste Away (not at the same time) and it seemed to knock it back a bit. I have an electronic air cleaner that I'm blaming. I found that after opening the windows in the morning help knock it back even more. I did put a glass top on and it reduced it even more. Almost gone now.
