Hey guys , so tonight I bought a 15 gallon tank on impulse .. stand and tank was $10.

Only thing , glass has some side chips. For $10, I said yea, why not. I’ve taking bigger risks on other things before so why not. If it won’t work for a QT tank, I can always use it for something else down the road.

My question is for the glass experts here. Are these chips bad ? Bad enough to deem this tank unsafe for water ? Glass is 3/16 inch thick

Here are some pics. There are a total of 3 side chips. All in different sides.

I would use this for a qt. Might want to sand any sharp edges tho. Bigger tanks take on more pressure so the glass strength on thos are more vital but this little guy for only ten bucks!? Fill it up and double check for leaks

Hard to argue with the price but... it looks to me like that tank has been re-siliconed combined with the chips would leave me uncomfortable. Looks like some good usable glass though. I'd take it apart and either glue it back together or use the glass on another project

Exactly what I would do! The more glass you have laying around the more things you can diy!!

I personally wouldnt use this tank. These smaller tanks are cheap enough when sold during dollar-a-gallon sale

I think I’m going to have to agree with you guys. I believe I would sleep with one eye opened if I ever set it up. I mean for 10 bucks, I just couldn’t say no. I’ll probably take it apart , keep the glass and look for another tank with the same dimensions of the stand.

My 75g has a couple chips like this. I never questioned the stability though. And I'm not sure why noting how the joints are resealed is a bad thing. Maybe I misunderstood but it seems to only add to the appeal here.

If in doubt, fill it up and leave it in a safe place for a few days. I would be surprised if you have any issues

I don’t think those joints have been resealed they look original to me. I always see super heavy silicone on small tanks
