This has been my favourite forum for reef related stuff for a long time. I have noticed more people with crappy attitudes lately. Those who clearly like nothing more than having an argument from behind their keyboards rather than actually trying to help people based on their personal experience rather than just repeating stuff they have read online and making personal attacks.

I hope this place isn't going to go the way of other forums. It's always been full of extremely helpful people for the most part, and for the vast majority of the time it still is, but there certainly seems to be a number of posters who like to make out they are experts while offering no evidence of this.

When you spot a thread where someone is obviously having issues and is looking for assistance and you have no personal experience or knowledge to add but nonetheless just feel like making comments without actually adding anything useful, how about keeping quiet and moving along?

Great reminder! Let's just be nicer to others and if we’re upset or aggravated just refrain from posting! :)

That reminds me of what my grandmother used to say - if you've nothing nice to say then say nothing. She also said other things that I cannot repeat in public...

I would like to mention an important rule for internet talk.

With each online interaction is a different channel. With online channels we lose a bunch of things we'd normally have when interacting in person. No emotion, sarcasm, facial expression etc. So keep in mind that maybe the way you are reading a message may not be the way was intended to be read.

Biggest fault in online messaging is that this is a channel that cannot be interpreted correctly 100% of the time.

That is true. I think people also feel that they are able to talk to others online in a way that they would not dare to do face to face.

Also if you see offensive behavior you can report the message instead of responding and we can reach out to the member who may just be having a bad day.

I must not been on the forum time enough, Every one seems really friendly and polite even during heated discussions.
Most are, but there are a few more that have a poor attitude than there were a few years ago when I joined the forum.

It's worthwhile mentioning to ensure it doesn't go the same way as some other online forums.

I obviously don’t read every thread or post here so I don’t want to discredit anyone’s experience. With that being said I honestly find this to be one of the nicest forum I’m a part of. Yes there are arguments, but I feel they are always handled professionally. I’ve never seen name calling or threats. I think people can have different opinions about topics and that’s okay. I ask for a lot of advice on here, and sometimes I get conflicting responses, and that’s okay. I pick what works best for my situation and move on. No one has told me I’m wrong for doing that, or been upset I didn’t go with there suggestions. I actually comment on it multiple times to friends I have in the mommy forum groups. Fish tank people are just nice... it’s probably because they stare at their tanks while writing and all the aggression melts away.

I believe the R2R team wouldn’t allow some of the behaviour shown on other forums. Hence this being the best forum worldwide it’s not just made out of a great community, it’s also made of one of the greatest teams looking out for its community.

I mostly lurk on here, but have noticed mostly pleasant exchanges and am amazed at the overall knowledge, expertise, and willingness to help.

On another sports forum I frequent that is not the case. On that one, I have noticed that the "ignore" feature the forum has, used on a select 3 or 4 individuals, increases my enjoyment of the forum immeasurably.

And I hope it continues, hence my post.

Agree! Sometimes it's best to take a step back, if its nice out go for a walk, or have a quick snack to relax, and then come back with a better state of mind and a positive attitude.
