How many ml of fully saturated Kalkwasser are you dosing per day for your tank.

For example for my 45 gallon tank I am dosing 2000 ml of fully saturated kalk a day. I run a high ph 8.4 and have a fair amount of corals.

Is this normal? I know all tanks vary in their demands, I am just trying to get a rough idea and make sure I am not overdosing.

Thanks

I think I'm in the same boat.
16 gallon tank.
Dosing 6ml of Brightwell's Alkalin8.3 + 168ml of saturated kalkwasser. And my alk is STILL dropping!

Based on your consumption, 2000/45 = 45ml per gallon.
I think I would be there too if I was not dosing the Alk supplement.

Once your consumption gets that high its time for 2 part dosing. Plus, my tanks are covered so they don't evaporate much. And...kalk tends to cost more than baking soda. Once you start chasing dKH with kalk you've hit the wall though, IMO

You can super saturate kalk water as long as its stirred up before dosing. The problem is the higher the saturation of kalk the more precipitate will form when its dosed.

I'd like to stick with kalk as long as I can. I appreciate the advice though!

I'm only keeping ALK at 8.0-8.5

That is normal.

It is normal for folks to replace most or all of the evaporated water in their aquarium with limewater at saturation, or less than saturated if they need less.

Most folks evaporate 1-3% daily.

I replaced about 2% daily with mostly saturated limewater.

Thanks for the verification Randy and everyone. I live in Colorado where the air is very dry, so I've always opted for dosing the Kalk, rather than relying on evaporation.

Adding a CO2 scrubber and increasing the Ph to 8.3 - 8.4 had a significant impact on my dosing regime.

Thanks again!

You're welcome.

Happy Reefing. :)
