So I have always wanted an elegance, but know their story of being difficult and dying for seemingly no reason..

I have read a bunch on them.. some old some new. Seems like the aussie ones have a much better chance of survival but even they can be hit or miss...

Divers den gets aussies in just about each day, and the regular LA has a maricultured option available...

Thoughts on giving either a shot? Or is this still a huge toss up.. I would rather not waste $100+ without a decent shot at success... thanks..

Why not ?
I say yay
Very beautifull animal
Only advice by my opinion is to buy an animal that you can see
Directly controll the color the tissue and its shape

My tank is also barebottom.. I have read they prefer sand bottom.. anyone kept one BB before?

If your water quality is good it should be fine. However, the indonesian ones are usually a billion times nicer and IMO have been holding up just fine in the last few years.

Here is it

Mine was doing just fine than one day started to close , it never recovered :(
Than when it had shrunk to show bits of it skeleton I saw a gall crab sitting in the middle
Iv also read a few other threads were people have had gall crabs in them as well
Just something to look out for
They really are beautiful corals
First pic is a few days after it stopped opening full than the other 2 are of no return with the gall crab sitting in it

One more thing my Lfs has a few that have been in the shop for a few weeks , I noticed the other day that 2 have started to close , My bets are that they are on their way out as well
But as I said they are beautiful

I had it for year . You need regular feeding and just make sure their tissue dont get cut because they are prone to infection . I had it on rock, bare buttom and etc doesnt affect it and it like medium water movement .

Seems to have shipped nicely.. in the tank last night and stayed mostly closed... came home from work today and this is how it looked (sorry for the overly blue shot, sunset started haha)

Not 100% open but decent for only being in tank just over 24 hours... also saw it grab a piece of food and eat when I fed the tank...

Would it be detrimental to the elegance if I cut the tip off the base? To make it flat so it will sit on the barebottom?

It is not open much today and im wondering if it's too much light or flow...
