Aussie Gold Torch Dying

Id retest your major parameters if these are not recent.

A few water changes wont hurt. Say 15% today, repeat tomorrow.

Calibrate your refractometer before the water changes.

doesn’t look good it’s halfway dead already skeleton is shouting one side dead I’d take it out and get a small qt tank with new water and good flow and some revive dip it and watch it closely put close to water pump to clear out any debris that might be in it

Cyano at the 1 year mark seems to be a little off. Are you using rodi water? When did you start getting cyano? Are you dosing any addictives right now?

Well so we had fish then an ice outbreak so we only have had coral for about half of that. We are using RODI water. The cyan started a couple days ago but we had it before. I am currently dosing very little calcium and Alk. We also have GFO running too. Before we had a cyano outbreak and we dosed cyanoRx and it went away but 2 weeks later(now) it has come back.

Keep in mind that we just got this coral from a place called Harrys Marine Life. I don't know if you know about that place or not but when we got it home it looked like this too. What should we do? You think we can get a refund on it?

Hey man sorry to see this, you say the coral fell, I once had a torch fall face down into the sand bed. It much have been there for a few hours. Next day 1 head started to recede. Lucky it had 5 heads and I was able to cut the effeted one off then dip it in iodine. Thankfully it made it minus that 1 head. Unfortunately your one looks like it's 1 piece so cutting wouldn't work. I do feel like this one is done but I'll pray to be wrong .

I think it would be best to just leave it alone and hope it pulls through now. Any attempt to help might stress it out to no end.

Yea if you bought it and it was already receding then it may have not been healthy in the lfs. Seems like all your other corals are doing fine and best to just leave it alone and see how it goes. Don't know if the lfs will take it back as it's already in your tank.

Can you get a picture of it when your lights are on and see how much it opens up?

What should I do??!! Please help
The animal has lost so much of itself. If there is a mouth then there is a chance but by the looks of it, the mouth might be gone or up to bat. Dipping may have worked before if it was a bacteria problem. I don’t recommend you dip it at this point. It is too hard to say now but first impressions led me to believe, water quality was the culprit. More bluntly put, I think CHANGES in water quality did this guy in. Some coral are more sensitive to stress even coral the same species will vary. Because they are animals and not plants I guess. I would guess that the coral being more expensive might have been kept in cleaner or more stable waters. Stress from trying to acclimate could be the cause. That or someone in your tank got a taste for gold Aussie? So sorry for this experience . The same happened to me on My first expensive torch coral. Then I started buying my own test kits.

In the future what do you recommend I get my water quality to for all the parameters?

As long as you're in the ballpark the exact numbers won't really matter. What's more important is the stability of parameters and not fluctuating much from it.

For me I have a 37 gallon mixed reef and I like to keep my parameters at :

alk 8-9 dkh
cal 420 ppm
mg 1320 ppm
po4 0.03-0.1 ppm
no3 5-10 ppm
