I got a 4 head Aussie Gold a couple months ago and it has bright gold color on one side of the tentacles and purple on the other. I thought this was normal until I saw an Aussie Gold at my LFS that is completely Gold with purple tips and looks amazing! Is my torch normal? Or should it be all gold? or are there different species of Aussie Gold Torches?

Here is a pic and a short video, (sorry it isn't fully open since the lights are not on yet)...

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I'm no expert however I know that corals often appear different under different lighting and I doubt there are different types of Aussie torches since they demand such a high price tag I imagine its a single species

As I don’t know about different species, there are certainly different strains and lineage. Mine are a bright 24k gold and mostly gold but yes a little purple. The more blues and lights on the arms the more they get gold. The purple is usually on the side that’s not getting light.

A true aussie gold is orange and purple and theres only a small section where they are collected. I have seen the all gold torches tho but I dont know of them having any other name than a gold torch.

you have a different phenotype, I have a short tentacled aussie gold with all gold tentacle and purple tip like you, and a long tentacle half gold have beige aussie gold torch with pinkish tips, the most sought after specimens are the orange gold aussies with long tentaclr and bright purple tip.

I had it under higher light and I thought it was starting to bleach because the purple was getting lighter so I turned the lighting down. I turned it back up and now I can see it isn't bleaching at all. It is actually turning the purple more gold! Thanks for the insight on that! ;Happy

I actually did see one that was Orange and Gold, but it was $999 a head and it had three heads. I was very tempted, but decided against it for now. Maybe the price will drop someday when people start propagating them more.

I had an all gold Aussie torch a few years ago and always wanted a gold and purple. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.
