Lately I have had 3-4 Aussie Lord Frags either start to recede, or totally recede. Any ideas?

pull your shrimp and dose the tank Rev-all about the interceptor for us SPS reefers-the stuff works miracles:)

Were the tissues damaged recently? Any non-aussie softy or LPS around them? Did you check your Mg?

Only time my acans start receeding is when they are stressed from shipping and if i don't frag back into the good heads it doesn't stop.

any pink on the skeleton? if so, its bacterial, and you must cut WAY beyond it, and even then its hit or miss.

also, intercepter seems to be the new treatment for some black bugs that some have reported seeing.

The skeleton is not pink and they were not damaged by other corals. It's kind just random ones throughout my frags. Some I have had for over a year. I have half a pill of interceptor left so I will do that tomorrow. Thing is I just did an interceptor dose about 3 weeks ago. My alk is fine and so is my cal. I also run mag pellets in my cal reactor. I am scared about this. My chalices and all other lps are doing great. Sps just fine.

Check that I am going to dose it tonight! Sorry shrimp and crabs..:(

I have seen pictures of your reef. I would be scared also, you have a lot to lose.

Yea it stinks. I can't find my pill so I am going to have to try and round one up tomorrow. If I lose my acans, I will be out of the hobby for a while....argg..

Looks like one or two is now starting. My local buddy had this happen to him but we could never find out the problem. He lost like all his acans, micros, and blastos.

Whoa...if you lose your acans your calling it quits?

Bro, PM me before you make any hasty decisions....

Rev - I have read many of your post, you are not a quitter!! As all of us know, this hobby is challenging at times and more so, costly! With every coral purchased or traded you/we are at risk of getting something in your tank that you do not want, there is no way to avoid it. The best thing to do is to try to fix the issue before it gets too far along. Press hard to get interceptor and if you dont see results rather quickly try something else. I use antibiotics for many issues and 9 times out of 10 it works. You can get antibiotics that are for livestock, its available at Tractor Supply and other farm stores.
Just dont give up! Part of the hobby is sharing ideas, success and failure.

Rev, as you know I have a fair share of acans. This periodically happens to me and the first thing I do is a coral dip just in case it is a bacteria and then put them in the line of more flow. 90% the recesion will stop and they will begin to make a come back. The ones I havent dont this with...well, lets just say they make good live rock for the sump.

If the recession is already "extreame", then I must do surgery and cut back behind the recesssion and still do the steps above!!!!! Hang in their pal, you'll get it. My acans love flow. Especially if they are bunched together.

Hey Rev dont give up i lost three nice chalice and over 10 colonies of aussie acan and still starting over so dont quit. I would give the interceptor a try because it seem to get rid of watever is killing the acan. You can replace shrimp and snail but some of the nice acan can not be replace. If you stop the receding it should grow back in no time. I had a couple of frags that was just bare skeleton and i did the interceptor and now has seem to grown back some baby polyp i am so excited because i knew i wont be able to get those frag again and if i do it would cost me greatly. Just hand in there and keep reefing.

Thanks guys.

I know this hobby is a struggle, and last night was frustration and fatigue talking. I will be fine. I could always go all sps and zoas. :)

Hate to hear the bad news.. I hope everything is ok with the tank.

Good news...I think!

I had seen my purple tang picking at my acans and today was a full assault on them. I am thinking he is the reason. He was picking at the one the other day that has the most damage now, and today he started picking at perfectly healthy colonies. I have a trap in there to get him as i type.

Could this be the problem?

Its hard to say. It is known that Tangs are not flesh eaters but I had a yellow tang that just LOVED eating zoanthids. So, I would not put anything past any fish. That would be horrible if the Tang has caused all of that damage. But, if its as easy as getting a fish out of your system to fix the issue, thats easy!
Please keep us updated.....

Hey Rev, i didn't want to jump to conclusions early on because i usually get boo'd for saying this but...

Whenever someone around here has problems with acans dying in there tanks i always tell them the same thing. If your water parameters are good than these guys are some of the hardiest corals i've ever kept. Seriously, if you don't shoot them through the heart with a .357 they just don't die.... unless there is a fish that is picking on them! Nobody ever thinks they have a fish that picks... well, i definitely think you found your problem. I could be wrong, but i doubt it.

This sux. Hope they pull out of it. This is just another reason I stick with ricordea.
