I am going to be adding a tusk to my 6 foot, 150 Gallon FOWLR. I would love to buy it at a local lfs but I don't have one. Whats' the best place to order an Australia Tuskfish online balancing cost and quality? I know I could buy from Divers Den but I don't want to spend 300 dollars if their are better options. Thanks.

Not sure what size you are looking for, but we've got them in stock: https://aqualocker.com/fish/harlequin-tusk/

The prices are Arrive Alive only, you can choose a 14-day livestock guarantee at checkout, if desired. We also have a 10% off at $179+ coupon code and a $50 off at $299+ available right now.

I have noticed your sale on tusks. My only concern is unless I pay another 100 plus dollars for a guarantee, I only get an arrive alive guarantee. I understand why you do what you do but it becomes very risky for the buyer because we don't know how well each individual fish will ship. That why I would prefer to buy in person.

We totally understand your concerns and hesitation to buy a fish sight unseen.

Just an FYI - Although we have had losses on the Harlequin Tusks from Eastern Asia, we have never had a single loss or claim on the ones from Australia.

Wow, that's a really good record. I bought a Australian tusk online many years ago and it came very healthy and lived for years. I also bought a Indo tusk online 2 months ago and it wasted away and died 15 days after purchase. I will keep you in mind. It will be at least 6 weeks out because I am going on a trip and want to wait to add new fish. Thanks

I agree that Tusks are pretty darn hardy fish. Mine was beaten up pretty bad when I bought him from my LFS, (got a huge discount though) and he also survived Marine Velvet in QT. He bounced back a lot quicker than the other fish in QT with him and never lost his appetite and continued to be very active throughout QT. Unfortunately he did not survive my Achilles Tang and his homicidal rage...RIP Charlie :(

All in all, they seem to be very hardy fish. And even at $300 not a bad deal. Mine was $125, but he had some fin damage and his tail was pretty shredded. Took about three weeks to fully heal.

I was going to suggest Aqua Locker as well. If you try and find them any cheaper, you better know what you are doing. Meaning they'll likely arrive with parasites or worse and you better be prepared to qt and treat. Guarantees are always not what you think, you only get a credit that has to used right back at the same place, you are out the shipping cost and will have to pay for shipping again to use your credit. I have gotten credit from places and ended up spending a fortune replacing everything that died and died again.

I agree a guarantee is not the biggest factor in purchasing online, a healthy specimen is. Over the 30 years I have been involved in reefing I have only cashed in a guarantee on a couple occasions. Sometimes I felt it wasn't worth the hassle for a small amount of money. However I think its unwise to just take a chance with a company without knowing some history about their track record.

Wanted to give an update. I ordered an Australia Tuskfish from Aqualocker. He arrived on Friday and is acting normal for a Tuskfish, ( timid, hides a lot ). The problem is I believe he might be blind. He is eating large pieces of frozen shrimp but he is continually bumping into the rocks and has a hard time finding the many caves in my rock structures. He eats the shrimp well, but will swim by it for 30 minutes until he accidentally hits it with his mouth. When that happens he devours it. I have tried motion with my hand when he is close to the glass and he does not respond. Any chance it could be temporary, and has anyone else dealt with this problem? I am thinking of naming him Mr. Magoo

Just experienced a similar thing with my Aussey Tusk... was fine for over a year, then about 2 months ago I saw him having trouble finding food, seemed to only see food on his left side, did not react to motion on right side. Died this week!

Please reach out to our customer service team and someone will help get this resolved. If the fish is blind, we will replace it, no worries.

Thanks you Aqualocker for your response. I was really only looking for advice on if it was possible for this fish to do well if he can't see. As I post this Mr. Magoo is swimming all around the tank. He's fat and in all other ways seems healthy. I don't want to euthanize him unless he can't survive. I won't know if he can survive unless I let some time pass. So I don't know how you can replace him. I do thank you for caring about your fish and customers.

We definitely don't recommend euthanizing the fish and LOVE that you are willing to care for it. Please keep us posted... if it passes within the next 30 days or so, let us know and we will replace it. We just want to make sure you are happy and that the fish is cared for. Let us know if you need anything in the meantime!

Thank you for your very generous offer to solve this situation. I am going to put shrimp on my nori clip in the same place every morning low in the tank and see if he can begin to connect it with breakfast, lunch and dinner. I will watch him closely and keep you updated.

A sad update on my blind Aussey Tuskfish, he died a couple hours ago. He could not see food and he acted like his sense of smell was gone. I put shrimp on my nori clip and he would bite the clip but not the shrimp which was literally an inch away. I also used a long thin pvc pipe with an elbow on it to try to feed him like an eel with no success. When I fed the tank with my normal frozen food he didn't even notice. I bagged him and put in the freezer and sent an email to Aqualocker to see what I need to do. Very sad to lose such a beautiful fish.
