Australian live rock

I picked up 10 pounds in early November and another 10 pounds from this last batch early this month. Both times I rinsed it off, picked off some branching calcareous algae and any soft material and put it right into my system. Some in the main display, some in a frag tank and the rest in the sump. The system handled whatever ammonia without a problem. No pests seem to have been introduced with it and each piece is clean with no problem algae. I love the shape look and weight of it.

Sps in tanks too ?

Yes. The rock was very clean so there wasn't much die-off. I'm hoping my bacteria population benefitted from the additions. My system has been running for 6 years and I'm sure the number of different species and strains of bacteria was reduced over time.

Can anyone identify what this white/yellowish stuff is? I tapped it with a toothbrush and it felt stony and smooth! I was expecting it to be soft based on appearance.

Got mine in my display. I did identify what could possibly be Cladophoropsis on every rock, but it's pretty juvenile and hard to say for sure to my novice eye. I went ham manually rasping off and peroxiding what I could, because if it is that, that's bad news. Check my thread here for pictures:

Aside from that potential headache, it looks very cool

I did the same with a large chunk I got on a 7lb order. It smelled like the ocean so I put it straight in the tank with no issues. I just ordered another 8lbs and hope to do the same thing again depending on the condition. Maybe I got lucky with the 1st batch???? I have KP rock and I am replacing some of it with this rock. This is the best live rock I have seen for sale in many years.

My 7 lbs have been in my display tank for 2 weeks now and am seeing tons of new life. My goal was to add some bio-diversity to my existing tank and i'm sure now I accomplished that.

I've had my 7lbs for a few weeks now. This is my first go around with live rock and there seems to be a new macro algae springing back to life every few days. The pod population has exploded and it looks wild under a whiter light spectrum. I think I'm going to let the rock do it's thing for quite a while with regular water changes.

I am also seeing lots of pods of all kinds. Macros also coming back slowly. Very similar to yours. I keep the 7 lbs in a 10gal for now with lights and filtration. Will try to get some pictures later...

Very fascinating. Mine doesn't look nearly as "alive" as yours, was that your impression a week or so after you first got your rock?

It didn't have any visible algae growth aside from strange encrustations and coralline. It looked pretty similar to yours until recently

Being my first tank, I noticed a bunch of white stuff on my glass.. just googled "what do copepods look like" and sure enough they're all over! Very cool

This rock is awesome! I just recieved another 8lbs today. It was more fresh than the first 7lb order I received. I dunked it a few times in some water I had just changed and put it straight in the tank. I pulled another piece of KP out to make room. The KP is really great rock but this stuff is next level.

Looks like it's cheaper now too at 19.99 lb

I got some of the leftovers delivered last night and they had some stink to them. I put them right into a bucket and I'm just going to do a 100% water change without testing just for precaution. Hoping to find some hitchhikers when I open the bucket up because this is my first ever real live rock

Took about 5-days for the stink to go away for me

A 4lb piece I got today from @uniquecorals . I love unique. They “rock”
