Hello all,

Since this is my first real post on this forum, I guess it's time for an introduction. My name is Barry Katz and after spending over 10 years working in the saltwater aquarium industry, I took a long break from the hobby. Back in the day I worked in several different fish stores, managed a saltwater fish store, and owned an online business selling WYSIWYG corals. After a long break and change in professions I am back!

I am going to be setting up a dosing system shortly for my Red Sea Reefer 170. I will be using the Jebao DP4, so I can dose 4 different containers, if I want. What I would like to do is dose Alkalinity in 1 container and Calcium in the 2nd container. My question relates to what I would like dose in the third container.
Based on your experience or understanding of chemistry do you see a problem dosing Iodine, Potassium, Iron, a general Trace Element mix, and Amino Acids from a single container. For trace elements, I am thinking of using Red Sea Colors A-D based on reviews and stated concentrations. I am also planning on using Acro Power for AA based on reviews and not needing to be refrigerated.
Although I could use the fourth container for Magnesium, do you see any problem dosing it with the Amino Acids and Trace Elements?
What if any problems do you see with bioavailability with this approach?

The 1 qualifier is that I can put a small powerhead in this dosing container if the consensus is that it would be necessary.

Thanks everyone!

Without knowing what’s in the amino acid and trace mix I can’t say if they are compatible or not. You can likely judge by the appearance of cloudiness. Most likely it will be ok.

A secondary issue may be bacterial growth in it. The preservative that allows it to not be refrigerated may fail when diluted.

I'm pretty sure the red sea coral colors can not be mixed and stored in a dosing container without precipitation. There are also different concentrations of those elements and they are dosed at different amounts based on calcium uptake. You would need 4 heads for the A-D trace. I have read from a red sea rep that you can add B to your calcium vial, but other than that no mixing.

I hand dosed the Red Sea ABC+ powder with colors C & D for over an year.
The ABC+ already has colors A & B in that product.

You dose 1ml of colors C & D to every 13.3 grams of the ABC+ powder.

Got away with 3 products instead of 7. Reef loved it, but went back to automaton for the long haul.
