Hello,

I am currently running an SPS dominant tank and I have been using Seachem reef fusion alkalinity buffer on a BRS autodoser - dosing 10 individual times per day. (reef fusion calcium is being dosed manually several times per week). The feed for the autodoser is from a 2 liter bottle reservoir that I fill with a measured amount of the seachem alkalinity buffer and then fill the rest of the way with RO water and then stir. The auto doser tubing sucks off of the bottom of this bottle for about a week until it needs to be re-filled. My question is does this buffer settle the same way kalk does at the bottom of the container? I've been noticing swings in my alkalinity the more ive been testing throughout the week.

It should not settle out.

Agree with Randy. Be sure to check alkalinity the same time every day. Alkalinity will change throughout the day as usage varies throughout the day.

Does the solution not become fully saturated? If I swirl the bottle after a couple of days it will turn the clear solution cloudy which I assumed meant I was reagitating whatever settled on the bottom. The swing was from 7.9 dkh tested at 8pm after lights out to 9.1 tested at 6pm the following day.

Just for my understanding, you're using Reef Fusion 2 as your alkalinity supplement? If it's as stable as Fusion 1 (which I use for calcium autodosing) it should be clear and no sediment in the bottom of the bottle.

I don’t use that particular alkalinity supplement. But I have never had one settle. (Yes, kalk will.) I would expect a rise overnight though. If you are dosing consistently throughout the day and night, alkalinity will increase overnight as the demand for alkalinity decreases when lights are off.

I would test at one time every day and see the daily consumption trend.

Ok thank you everyone for your responses. I added a small powerhead to the container just in case. I’m going to test alkalinity twice a day for a little while until it is consistent again.

I do also use fusion 1, and in my opinion this does stratify and something settles out of it. The last 3 bottles of it have had a light brown layer at the bottom of the newly opened bottle.
