Auto feeder moldy food

I just checked my neptune AFS and all the food was completely moldy. I filled it to the max and feed on the smallest setting, so it’s probably been months since I checked it. I guess it’s to be expected having food sitting above water. Anyone else have that issue? Looks like i’ll be putting less food in at a time.

I only fill enough to coincide with some other maintenance like changing out carbon. Do the tied maintenance task empty and refill the autofeeder
