I have a BRS 5 stage RO/DI filter.

I have the output split with a "T" valve. One goex to the ATO float. The other goes to my mixing station. I keep it set to the ATO except when I need to make water.

Here's the problem: When set to ATO, the auto shutoff valve does not shut; there is a constant flow of water.

Now, I don't have to tell everyone here that this hobby is expensive enough without the added expense of wasting water.

I took the auto shutoff apart; it's just a black ring sandwiched between 2 rubber diaphragms. What could possibly fail in such a device?

ASOV (Auto Shutoff Valves) are known for failing. Get a new one... it'll fail too, eventually.

You can add a permeate pump to your system... along with (or even without) an ASOV. The permeate pump also acts as an ASOV, along with it's regular job of increasing output pressure. Using both a normal ASOV and a permeate pump gives you a level of fault tolerance...

I have both, and additionally, a solenoid valve that only enables the incoming water line for a couple of hours, twice a week. It's enough to keep my ATO reservoir filled... but not enough to really make a mess if the other safeguards fail. Add in a couple cheap battery powered water alarms, and I feel pretty safe :)
