Ok will be hooking up my tunze osmolator 3155 tomorrow. Now do most of you keep the optical eye and float on the same mount? Or do you mount the optical eye at water level and the float up higher then the point your water would go if return pump was shut off?

Typically, the float valve is a safety for the main sensor so if anything goes wrong it shuts the ATO off before flooding your floor.

I understand that part of it. But does everyone Mountbatten float with the optical eye? Or do you use the 2nd mount for the float and mount higher then the level would be if return pump was shut off?

Just don't want to hear that alarm everytime the return gets shut down.

The result is the same right? the optical should have shut off if the return pumps does not pump the water out of the sump fast enough......the float switch is basically rarely used and intended for in case the optical sensor fails to recognize the water level.

I mounted both on the same mount. When I do water changes (or anything that requires the sump to rise) I turn off the ATO via Apex to avoid hearing the alarm.

I know I can shut it off but I heard when you do that the auto top off resets and dumps a little more water in when it turns back on. Almost like it is priming not sure how true that is

That's exactly what it is doing. It does prime the pump when the unit is turned back on. Just catch the dump immediately, then good to go.

What do you mean by catch the dump?. Like have a container ready just to catch the stuff that comes out during the prime

Yep. I keep a large cup nearby and catch the prime and return it to the auto reservoir.

Excellent thank you I feel much better about installing this today do you know about how much the prime sends out for water is it a large amount or just a small amount

Unless your tank is tiny, the prime water won't make much difference :-). Don't even need to get a big cup there.

I use the plastic clip from a bread bag, and push it onto the pole that the float rides on. Takes five seconds, and the float doesn't rise. I didn't like RODI dumping into my tank each time I turned it back on.
