So I’m going to get one new piece of equipment to try to help maintain my pico tank. I’ve had algae issues just as of recently and I’m getting busier in my life so maintence will be a little harder for awhile. Would y’all consider an auto water change system or an algae scrubber? What are your experiences with either?

I run an awc (Apex DOS) to maintain 200 gallons. On a pico maybe a waste as water changes should be easy. Just make up a 5 gallon bucket and change a gallon a week. I would look into keeping stability for the algae issue. How long has the tank been setup?

have had this tank for a year and a half and that is what I currently do, but like I said, it is about to get really difficult to do some of the maintence for awhile. I’m having my first baby in less than a month. That’s why I’m considering the AWC system.

If you don’t have 10mins for your pick water change, I don’t see being in this hobby no offense.
Wow, ive been in the hobby for 10 years. Life gets hectic. Maybe try to be a little more constructive in your comments instead of discouraging someone. You are the first person to provide such negative comments on this forum.

I had a baby when I started my last tank and now he runs around helping me setup my new 125 long before baby number 2 gets here! (Any day now and I’m crammming I’m getting water into the new tank hopefully this weekend!!)

I agree with your comments about changing your priorities for your first child. My suggestion autoaqua awc water change with ato.. it’s 210 bucks comes with 3 pumps and a few optical sensors..

Set one of the sensors to pump out the waste water into a drain or Homedepot 5gal bucket, set the second optical sensor to pump from mixed salt water bucket into tank.. there’s a few videos on YouTube on how it works but that’s my 2 cents..
