After having a middle of the night skimmer overflow I was thinking of adding the AutoAqua Smart Skimmer Securty to my setup. I've seen a few people report that it can have false trips and I don't really want my skimmer shutting down for no reason, but the overflow sucked too.

Has anyone combined one of these AutoAqua sensors with their Apex in a way that the Apex can notify that the sensor cut power to the skimmer? Maybe monitor skimmer pump wattage? Alarms are great but worthless if you're not in the room to hear it.

I don't think the skimmer cup is big enough for typical mechanical float switch and this looks like a simple solution (CADLights PLS-50).

This cuts power on its own. You plug the skimmer into the sensor, when it gets full, the sensor cuts power to the outlet that the skimmer is plugged into.

Yes, I understand that, but was wondering if I can use the Apex to send a notification that power has been cut so I know that I need to go investigate.

Oh definitely. Not only does it sound an audible alarm, all you have to do is set up power monitoring on that apex outlet. If the watt draw is less than say 10, you know that the skimmer is off.

I use it with Apex. works good. It doesn't have false positives often but the bucket/skimmate cup has to be pretty transparent. So if it does overflow, make sure to clean it off well to prevent false positives.

Great to hear and thanks for the tip. Good to know that it doesn't mess with the Apex functionality.

You can buy a Deltec skimmer. They have overflow protection built in and it works well.
