automated/motorized canopy

What exactly do you want to do? A bit more info may be helpful.

i want to be able to lift my canopy 12''-18'' over my reef to be able to work in my reef without have to remove it the canopy will be 60x24x11

You could use linear actuators, but it will be pretty pricey. Why not just hinge the canopy so that the entire front lifts up and use a scissors hinge with a lock to hold it in the upright position while you work in the tank?

I use one of these to lift my canopy

Track Actuators - Linear Actuators, Linear Motors, Micro motors, Electric Motors

I did a motorized light rack that is similar to the one built for "A Reef In The Sky" - famous thread on Reef Central. It uses an awning motor and is controlled via a remote control. I built the rack itself from EzTube parts.

The original motor I bought was shipped from overseas and isn't a true 60hz, so it's touchy, but it works good enough for me. After doing a little research you can get a similar motor from Somfy.

Here is a video I took during setup/moving stuff from old tank to new tank -> ‪Eztube orphek led rack‬‏ - YouTube

I can bring up some idea's in my mind that would be very costly, but hard to nail anything down without a photo of what you have.
I assume that what your saying is that you want to lift the canopy straight up 12 to 18 inches and your canopy top is not hinged.
The best one I can think of and have built for other functions is a dumb-waiter style lift.

ianiwane i like your setup how can get some thing like that and it clean look and cost
