If you're doing a daily water change, how many gallons are you changing out daily and what is your total tank water volume? Some say 1%-2% is ideal.

My total water volume is around 200 gallons. I change out 3 gallons from 10 pm to 6 am using Apex Dos pumps. I do it while I'm sleeping because they can be pretty loud (tank in living room). That brings me to my next question. Benefits of changing out water slowly over 24 hours vs an 8 hour period? I have a mixed reef with a decent amount of SPS.

Has anyone played around with different water change amounts? Anyone notice a difference? What did you notice? I use to do 4 gallons a day (2%) and could have sworn everything looked a little better but maybe I'm just going crazy.

Do you do larger monthly water changes as well? I personally stopped doing giant water changes. It would always lead to a small swing in parameters which made my corals cranky.

I have searched a few other threads. Some good info. I'll link below in case you'd like to read through it. Randy Holmes says he shoots for 1%. Curious on everyones experiences!

One issue that you can run into if you do too much was changes pre tank volume is dinoflagellates.

I don't have an issue with dinos. I just upped my water change to 4 gallons over the course of 8 hours at night. We will see if I can notice a difference. Thats 2% for me which I believe BRS recommends.

I did auto water changes before BRS even existed. You will find the amount you need to exchange. I now don’t do any water changes as I have learned to master the control of elements to add to the water. Using the DSR system.
