I'm thinking of getting The Plank Autofeeder, but I was wondering if you guys turn off the flow when using one. If you guys do, then how did you guys get your fish to learn where the food comes from?

I don’t have a plank but I do have an autofeeder in both of my tanks.

In both tanks, I have a feeding ring under the feeder. In both tanks at least a couple fish have quickly learned where the food comes from and how to break the surface of the water in the feeding ring causing the food to fall and feeding the waiting crowd.

The only time I have issues is, if while cleaning glass I don’t get the feeding ring positioned just right. Then yes the food will float straight to the overflow and down the drain

I have a Plank and do NOT turn off my flow when it's feeding time. I have a powerhead strategically positioned near the Plank to blow the food into the general water column and then be dispersed throughout the tank.

The Plank really is amazing, it's the auto feeder I wish I had years ago!

Same here, Plank feeding with full flow. Make sure to adjust the flow setting to at the bottom of to the ideal soak time. I got the new version with 6 settings for the flow from @AVAST Marine. For me, setting 3 allows for the Reef Jerky / TDO blend to come out gradually. I too have a power head aimed at the bottom of the plank tube that pushes it towards the main returns. This helps to distribute the food so that the less aggressive feeders also get some.

Another great feeder is the new @ind.aquatics aF4 frozen food feeder. With this one, I feed through the sump main return line. Works great so far…. I alternate with aF4 and Plank for 4 feedings per day (two frozen, two dry).
