Use it? Love it? Bad idea? Suggestions for one? Preferably not hugely pricey.... Lol if that's possible

I came across one build, not sure where it is now, that uses these with success... They are $32 each, and anything over $35 gets free shipping.

Amazon.com : EHEIM Everyday Fish Feeder Programmable Automatic Food Dispenser : Pet Self Feeders : Pet Supplies

This particular build used two, and fed two different foods at two different times of the day. He used a piece of pvc that sat just below the water surface so the food would drop into it, and stay there until it sank instead of floating all over the tank and into the overflow.

I use the one above, just started. I paired it with the Chimney from Melev's Reef.

Eheim here as well and love it.

Thank you all! I've got an Eheim coming Saturday :)

How often then do you feed meaty foods? And what food do you use for your tank in the auto feeder? Currently stocking slowly slowly slowly but have a hawkfish, tang, and 3 small Anthias.

I personally use the auto feeder for breakfast and lunch, one feeding (rotation) each, a mixture of pellets and flakes. I then feed Mysis, Brine or home made in the evenings. The benefit is I can program for dinner too if I'm out of town, so feeding is taken care of. 12 fish in a 120g.

The feed door can be a little finicky. I ended up putting a piece of black tape to hold it open in the position I wanted. You'll see what I'm talking about when you start playing with it. It's not a big deal at all.

I do pellets in mine. Formula 1 and 2. I haven't had a long vacation since I set my reef tank up, but it worked perfectly for my cichlids. Since I enjoy feeding them, I used to just turn the timer off, fill it up with food and use the button for all feedings.

I haven't found the door to be finicky to where I'd need tape... I've found it finicky in the sense that a SLIGHT movement can make a big difference in the amount of food dispensed.

The best advice I think I could give is that since you have to kinda fine tune how open the slot is, give yourself a week or so with it before actually counting on it for vacation.
