Just a quick one, I wanted to give a general recommendation as a sort of check for people using certain test kits (regardless of brand), but one would have to use a very small amount of muriatic acid.

Best would be if the acid would be reasonably dilute (say 2 or 3% HCl).

My question is, is this easily/readily available for the general public in the USA?

TIA :)

I can find 30+% muriatic acid at any big brand hardware store or pool store around me. They also usually carry a "Green" version with what they claim as low odor which is just a lower percentage/more diluted muriatic acid.

It's available in higher concentrations.

Yes, appx. 32% HCl is readily available everywhere in the USA. The concentration clearly varies, though, from appx. 10M to appx. 12M, and be advised it is typically quite contaminated with iron, if that matters at all. More dilute stuff, especially with a reasonably accurately known concentration, is not generally available. Would distilled white vinegar perhaps be an appropriate and consistent enough substitute for whatever you are contemplating?

As Jim stated 22 baum acid is readily available but a lot of time it does carry a high concentration of FE. Now for everyone that lives near most kinds of oil industries reagent grade is available from .1-20%. Does the FE concentration affect what you have in mind if not I can dilute to what ever concentration needed

That's awesome to know thanks! I assumed it had some other elements in it but didn't know what. To me thats perfect as I can reduce my IO alk at the same time add some Fe to be dosed during my daily water changes to help feed my ATS.

Sorry off topic but happy to learn that.

Thanks folks! :)

@JimWelsh , unfortunately acetic acid will not accomplish what I would like to happen.

I will post within a few days, on basis of muriatic acid and perhaps other suggestions might come once more details are given.

Is something quite simple :)
