OK all, I bought this kit from the great guys at Avast a couple of months ago now. I will say that I have always been impressed by all there products. This skimmer is no exception. I got the DIY kit with smoke acylic and the pump. I also got a Davey Jones locker that plugs right into my RKE.
Now the kit is not for a beginners per say. But it is really not too hard to put together. The kit comes with everything you need to put it together. Glue ect.. I usually use a different glue than what they provide but I used what they provide to build my kit. I would normally use weldon 3 or 4. The stuff included is more like 16. Works great and helps fill in the gaps if things are not perfect. Kind of nice for this little project.
The skimmer it self is not really that small. Its a good size skimmer really. I was running it on my newer 75g and I could just tell this skimmer needed more. So this is why it has taken me a while to write a review on it... I took it down to the Local fish store and put it on there 200 plus gallon fish only tank.
It took about 3 or 4 days to start kicking in but then it really started to perform. I had the lfs owner right his thoughts on the skimmer just for some added perspective...so this is what he had to say...
"the pump is great. very quiet and plenty strong to get good results.
I also am a big fan of the adjustment gate. being of a screw type you can dial it in slow and in very small increments.
I do not care for the smoked tube. its difficult to make the right adjustments without getting a flashlight. i m sure its less of an issue once the unit is broken in but in the early stages of use it is a pain. it does look cool though.
I hope this helps and thanks again for letting me check it out.

I agree the smoke tube looks great but does make it hard to adjust. I would put this skimmer on some super heavy stocked 90g to 200= gallon tanks. I thinks its sweet spot is around 150g display tank. Its a pretty good buy for the money. Ill get you a couple pictures up here later today or tomorrow.
