Setting up a Versa to do auto water change. My question is, how much should I change out per day, on roughly 260 gallons total?
from what I’ve read, it’s best to have it setup to do water in/water out at the same time with two pumps so that the water level doesn’t change correct?

Well the typical suggestion for manual WC's is 10% a week. So at 10% a week thats 26 gallons a week for you. Spread out over 7 days that would equal 3.7G a day. I would probably just do 4G a day to make it simpler to program.

I have not set mine up yet, but I also plan on pulling and pushing at the same time. I will remove from the skimmer chamber(first section of the sump), and return into the return section(last sump section). I have also read it's best to do it at the same time, but plan on turning the ATO off during the process through an apex.

I do about 1% per day. My AWC changes small amounts all day long so my water level doesn’t change in any perceptible way.

The general guide is 10% per week so just divide that up into 7 and that's the daily amount for example

I just do 5% in both my systems per week, so its whatever you prefer.

And yes you make the pumps work at the same time, 1 taking water out from maybe 'upstream' and 1 putting it back in 'downstream'. This will prevent issues with the ATO

I currently have it doing 2 gal a day, so looks like I need to at least double that. I currently have it set up to do 6ml/min, which if my math is right (and I’m terrible at math) then it should run constant for like 22 hours. And I set it max of 2 gal per day. So doing it at a constant rate, I kept my ATO running. Like mentioned, I do have it taking out of skimmer section, and returning it to return pump section.

Unless you are having problems I think you are ok now.

I don’t think a small change daily mathematically is the same or As effective as a larger one per week, even allowing for stability
Think about it; its a “story” problem or Dilution issue. Not debating anyone per se.
...even though smaller changes are more stable, IMO a 10% weekly trumps 2%/day ... again, realizing and taking into account sensitivity, @ 10/%, I’ve never wittnessed any negative effect

I agree. And back in the day I did 30% every couple of months. But the simplicity of the small daily AWC that I’ve been doing the last couple of years is really nice.

Yea it’s all about simplicity to me. I was doing a 5 gallon bucket every other weekend on my nano cube. I don’t want to see another bucket or trash can again! Lol

Same, yup simplicity, ..And regardless of percentagesI I really really want to get the DOS myself, probably my next indulgence

Yes, the DOS was not yet proven reliable when I started, so I use a Spectrapure liter meter 3 for my AWC. I am thinking about a DOS and trident for my next big purchase. However my wife doesn’t yet know this :)

Well the versa might have worked great today while I was at work, except I programmed it in the Mobius app, but I didn’t program it in the Apex and it shut it off because it was default programmed as a light or something. Lol

I do 1% daily divided over 160 cycles per day which comes out to 23.6mL every 9 minutes on my ~100 gallon system. Seems to work well!

This is correct. You can use a calculator to determine effective amount of water changed: https://www.hamzasreef.com/Contents/Calculators/EffectiveWaterChange.php

So e.g. if you have a 100 gallon tank and want to do the equivalent of a 10 gallon = 10% water change per week, you should change about 1.5 gallons daily, or about 0.0625 gallons hourly. (But those come out to about 10.5 gallons actually changed in a week, so if you don't want to bother with the calculator you wouldn't be far off if you just divided 10 gallons / 7 to get a daily amount.)

I am around 200 gallons on my systems as per glass, probably ~150 gallons functionally. I do 8320ml, or just over 2 gallons daily.

My frag system is about 50 gallons of water total, I do 4320ml per day on that.

5 gallons a month or my nutrients bottom out !! I dose neo nitrate too how do you all keep from bottoming out? I feed heavy too yes my skimmer is over sized but ive been dumping it back in the filter sock
