Going to set up an AWC. I only know of 2 options - the Neptune DOS and the EM Versa. I’m already using a Neptune Apex - I also already use a Versa to feed my Calcium Reactor so I’m somewhat familiar with those manufacturers. However I don’t know if there are other options?

Additionally I think I read the DOS doesn’t do large water changes (10 gallons in one day) instead it does smaller daily changes? Conversely I think the Versa will do large water changes during the course of one day?

My ultimate goal is to do weekly 5 gallon changes or biweekly 10 gallon changes. I would also like the flexibility to do a large change if needed for any emergencies- i.e. 30 gallon change.

Appreciate everyone’s feedback!

I think a DOS will do up to 38 gallons in one day. I've done a couple 30 gallon changes with mine in one day.

I’d like I mount the DOS in my basement - do you think there would be any issue with that - wasn’t sure if I’d run into a back syphon issue?

On the DOS I assume you can just go into the app and say change x gallons?

I haven’t had any issue with back siphons. My DOS is mounted in the stand but draws freshly mixed saltwater up from the basement.

I do emergency water changes by rewriting the program (I.e rewrite my normal wc program to say change x gallons in x hours). Max emergency water change I’ve done is ~60g in 2 days.

No back siphoning with it mine pushes water from the other side of my house with no problems. You can program it with the app

I have mine set up in my garage and used RODI tubing so I just put check valves on it to be safe. Just make sure you put them on right as they will prevent it from working if they're not.

Also, the basement is a good idea as they are a bit noisy. And just keep in mind distance from the Apex as the USB cables can't be powered or you can damage the equipment. There are long lengths available, I have a 100ft that I got from USBFireWire that worked out great, it was a little expensive, but worth it I think.
