A local vendor in my area advertised frags of this colony he calls "Reefomania Snowberry"
I haven't seen another aussie coral like this yet. I was curious if anyone has seen something like this. I bought a 2" frag. It's a little faded but I think it has lots of potential. Just looking for some input.

Here colony from vendor (under 400w radiums and actinics)

Here is a frag in my tank under t5's only (halides not on yet)

PS whoever gave me a 1 star rating...... Fangul !!!!!!!:squigglemouth::squigglemouth::sad: Probably a chop shop vendor ;)

:angel:I swear I am not looking to start any trouble here but............ the frag you bought would qualify as a "chop shopped" frag:angel:. I'd say that colony is pretty fresh out of big blue and coloration like that is pretty typical of off the boat stuff. Your frag has a better chance of thriving than the colony though for sure but treat it gentle. Real gentle. Wild cuts are probably the most sensitive and unpredictable frags out there. Please let us know how it looks in another month or two or six. Could be a gem:)

Adam is correct in my opinion. I was thinking the very same thing when I saw the picture of the mother colony. It might be impossible to keep the color just like that in our tanks. How long has the LFS had the colony?

I hear you on the chop shop lol Only difference is that I chose the frag and they cut for me. I can't afford the whole colony :) These are not $40 maricultured milli colonies cut to nubs. I have a low nutrient system and 400w radium. I'll give it the best chance I can to retain/gain color. You're right about this colony being wild. It was only in their system 1 day. Point is, fresh wild or not, I haven't seen another acro that looks like this. I just wanted to see if anyone has seen some aussie stuff like this yet. I'll be sure to update if it colors up, turns turd brown, or dies :(

ive seen that same piece in the wholesaler but it looked touuuuuuuuchhhy. nice grab. good luck cant wait to see when polyps are extended!

There is sometimes a reason for this. That coral looks very bleached....probably from shipping. Australia always seems to come in pretty rough.

Hopefully the color remains. It's very nice!

I'll get some update pics soon. Polyp extension has improved. Color is slightly better but still somewhat pale.

Man o' man, I just bought a frag of this in Houston today! and yes it is very pretty and 100% Australian. Crappy cell pics man I need a DSLR, the tips are blue like the original pic in this thread.

It's been a week and not too much has changed color wise. Maybe a slight bit more pink. I do notice new growth and polyp extension has improved. The blue tips are brighter than pictured. They glow blue in person. This photo was taken with an iphone in an eshopps coral viewer.

Regardless if it is fresh off the boat or not that thing is amazing! One good thing to look at is usually when you get wild fresh cuts like that they brownout almost within a few days and will not color up for a few months but your seems to be holding color well…. good luck!

That particular coral does good for about 6 weeks then will slowly peel. Ive had 2 colonies color retained and started to grow then bam peeled. Maybe the frag will do better it truly is a amazing coral

Crap, that's not encouraging :) Hopefully this frag doesn't meet the same fate. I'll post progress either way.

As Monte Python says "Always look to the bright side of life!"

You have a nice piece. Don't worry it to death and give it the care it needs to thrive. Then when my advice helps to create a beautiful colony and you tell all the nay-sayers "told you so", be sure to ship me a frag and show them all the beautiful images of a coral being sent to me...

It was worth a shot right ;)
