Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share my experience and wonderful clowns that I received from Alpha Corals last week. First off, I had been looking at ORA Black Ice Clowns for awhile. Then I came across Sustainable Aquatics. I spoke with Heather at SA and found out that they cannot ship direct to customers. She referred me to Kris at Alpha Corals and I'm really happy that she did. Kris is a great guy and I highly recommend using him.
Not only does his site have great pics of the exact clowns that you will get (WYSIWYG), but he also has videos of the exact fish as well. I found this really helpful to see exactly what you will receive so there are no surprises. In my opinion, the Alpha Coral selection were the nicest looking Black Ice that I had seen and I had been looking for quite awhile. As I scrolled through all of Kris's inventory, I came across a Fancy Clown Pair in the Hall of Fame section that I just fell in love with. Their coloring and markings were just amazing. Even though this was not what I orginally set out for, by having the pics and vids of the exact fish, it helped me find something that I wanted even more.
I contacted Kris to ask some questions and he was very friendly and helpful. I could see that he really cares about the fish and isn't just looking to push a product off of an assembly line. For example, we were only a few days before Christmas and Kris expressed concern about a possible UPS shipping issue with it being the holiday. If UPS made any mistakes the Clowns could be sitting stuck for days somewhere over the holiday and potentially die. I was really surprised that he would suggest to wait until right after the holiday to ship, just in case I didn't like that or walked away from the purchase. That to me said a lot and made me want to use him even more. Not only are they the nicest fish I have seen but also a person who really cares about what he does and isn't just in it for a buck.
I agreed with his advice and even though I really wanted these fish immediately, I decided to wait a few more days just to be safe. I'm really happy that I did because after receiving these fish, I would never have wanted to risk losing them. Kris stayed in communication and provided the tracking number and his suggested acclimation process. (I highly suggest following everything he recommends to ensure happy and healthy fish and safe transition to their new home.) If you have any questions or concerns, definitely speak with Kris in advance and he will happily walk you through everything. Not only does he want a happy customer, he also wants to ensure that these wonderful fish are happy and healthy for years to come. I was blown away when I saw these clowns in person. They looked great on the site but even better in person. I ran into a small glitch while acclimating and Kris made himself immediately available to help me get it resolved ASAP.
Everything has gone great since then and I could not be happier with these clowns. They look amazing, are very healthy, full of life and also have great personality. You can tell they are use to being around people and come right up to the glass when I am in front of it. These tank raised clowns are the way to go. The pricing is higher than wild caught, but you are getting a much nicer, healthier, and personable fish, while doing what is right for the environment. My only other suggestion would be to consider purchasing the SA Dry Hatchery Diet. It is an excellent product and these fish were rasied on it. I have Formula One and NLS Marine pellets and although they will nibble at them, they go crazy for the Hatchery Diet. They Hatchery Diet is much higher in protein (52 percent) and has a great mixture of ingredients, including garlic. The .5 mm slow sinking pellets are perfect for these size fish.
All in all, I would definitely purchase from Alpha Corals / Kris again. Nicest clowns I have seen and great customer service that cares about both you and the fish. What more could you ask for? :bigsmile:
