I received a Azure Damsel that arrived with red gills. I assumed it has ammonia poisoning. I treated him with Methylene Blue for a few days. He now is acting great, eating normal, however his gills are still red. Its been 8 days. Is there further treatment I should do before moving out of hospital tank?

Eventually want to move to DP tank but want to make sure they rip no chance this will turn into infection.
thx

Can you post a picture or a short video taken under white light?

If you move the fish out after only 8 days, you leave it susceptible to a number of common diseases. Since you already have it isolated, why not give it a copper and prazi quarantine?

I’ve seen that before and never attributed it to any specific disease issue, just a general thinning of the gill operculum, letting the color or the gills to show through. I don’t know of any treatment for this, or even if a treatment is needed. Maybe somebody else will chime in?

I have the same issue with my damsel. We have two LFS's in my city. Both are as bad as Petco. Anything come of the red gills OP?
