I mixed and used half of a container of ALK and let the other half sit as I normally do. Went to fill up my doser, and the solution solidified again, like when you first purchase it. I went through the process of mixing it again, but it doesn't seem to want to mix. The solution just settles on the bottom. Does this stuff go bad? I assume it isn't safe to use if it keeps solidifying......now I don't even know if the first half that I did use was mixed correctly. The remaining half of the bottle might be twice as strong. I have been using this stuff for almost 2 years with no issues.

Only time I have seen this is when someone accidentally mixed the alk with the calc in the container. It shouldn't be able to go bad but I wouldn't use it without doing some testing.

I looked it up and 1ml of the solution should raise 1 gallon of water by 0.5-0.6 dkh. You could measure out a gallon of water and test for the increase to see if it has the right potency.

Thanks Brew........at this point I think I am just going to dump it since I can't get it to dissolve properly. I have soaked it in warm/hot water several times, constantly shaking it. Next day it is separated again. That is good to know how much 1ml will raise a gallon of water though......probably worth testing new solution every once in a while.

Not sure if you use it, but I find this calculator to be extremely handy.

Also agree it is best to dump it. Not worth the risk.
