a friend was over to help me out at the house since I had recent foot surgery. He was sitting in front of my tank and saw one of 2 banghais. One is usually always hiding since I have a large emperor angel who runs the tank. Anyway he's looking at the tank, asking what the pink coraline wa on the glass, etc, was the lawnmower blennie eating it, etc.
then he goes, what's the little black and silver thing near the gravel under the rock! I assumes it was just the other bangghai and I start staring and holy crap, it's about 1/4" at most and it was just under a piece of rock that was sticking barely over the gravel bed.
I had a while ago bought a few bags of pods for my target mandarin, but I've never seen much of a population.
So I'm guessing the female was hiding and not venturing out for food like the other because her mouth had the eggs or babies. But I'm shocked that even one fry has grown to that size without an effort from me knowingly trying to feed it and it not be a meal to my angel, clowns, crabs or coral banded shrimp or even the mandarin since I imagine the fry would look like a tasty pod to him.
I'll try and get a pic, although I have a lot of coraline on the glass especially near gravel line.
