baby brine collector

So I built a collector by wrapping a tuppaware cup in black electrical tape and cutting a hole in the top for a collection bottle. The problem here is getting the bottle on and off without spilling it. Suggestions?

Maybe if you explain to me how you plan on using this exactly I can share some thoughts. Not really sure what your doing
 
I hatch the brine in a modified 2l bottle. Pour that into the tuppaware. Then fill the plastic bottle with tank water and insert it. Put a light over the top and the brind swim up into the bottle. Then I remove the bottle and pour it into the feeder.

 
You need a smaller hole for the entrance. I have a hatchery that I bought premade (pretty cheap too). It operates on the same principle. black box- clear collection cup on top- shrimp swim towards the light. This collection cup has a small hole about 1/4 inch or less so that when I remove the cup minimal water falls out (if any). The shrimp go in but they don't fall back out. Hope that helps!
 
At first I thought this wouldn't help either and it would be harder to collect them all. But if I used a reversed cone inside the mouth of the bottle like a fish trap.... that might work. Making the water and shrimp harder to fall out while keeping the collection area wide. Thankyou for the idea. Ill get back on how it works:-)

Maybe cut the bottom of the water bottole and then scoop them out with a net or syphon them out with a airline tube.
 
Another great idea that should work too. I should be able to fill the bottle and Siphon them out through the hole

What i was really thinking was keep the bottle lid on the bottle and drill a small hole in it. That way you can just unscrew it to get them back out. But what you said works too. :)
 
The problem I'm having is tipping the bottle back and forth.Although the hole in the cover would make it a bit less of a mess It would also be way too small for the amount of brine im trying to collect to enter In a short amount of time. Drilling a hole on the bottom of the bottle To be able to fill it with fresh salt water and siphon out the brine sounds to me the best way to go about it. This way the bottle never has to be removed I think I'll give that a shot

I tried a whole new approach. For collecting. I'm not sure it will work as good. But I was reading on raising brine and I found out I was wrong. I thought the egg shells sank.thus the top collector. But they float. Unhatched eggs sink as well as babys given a lack of light. So I'm trying a side by side. One dark cup for hatching and one light for collecting with a ball valve in between to allow the babys to transfer when ready. Ill post pics soon. I hope it works. Also I am try my hand at growing the brine. That will be another thread. :-)

Here is what you need.
1. A straw

Here is what you do.
1. Cut a hole bottom of bottle big enough for a straw.
2. Poke in straw. BUT NOT all the way in, just to water level.
3. Suck and turn. upright while turning straw up also.
4. Success.

Does that make sense? You just need to add some suction.

EDIT: added picks of a modified bottle to make it more clear what I did.

I read that you changed your strategy. Dam lol. Well at least I fixed the original problem lol.

I'm not sure I understand what you have here

He asked for a way to move his bottle on and off without spilling. By putting on lid with a hole, then putting a hole in bottom and using the straw. He would have been able to do that.
Assuming he didn't fill it all the way.

Sucks on the straw (air not water), and that gives the suction that keeps any water from dripping while putting off and on. When not in use store cap side down and tape up both holes. or if you want to store it in fridge or something.

You can test it with a bottle, two holes and a straw. (carful not to suck water test it with water first). The hole on cap can be bigger, but too big and it won't work.

This is my new design. Testing tomorrow. Dark cup will be loaded with hatched brine and eggs and covered with a black cover. Clear side will be set under a light and filled with fresh salt water. Open the valve and hopefully the unhatched will stay at bottom of dark cup. Shells will float to top of dark cup. And only live brine will swim through to light. The valve is at a slight down slope to the clear cup to prevent shells.

Pretty cool but my original design the bottle had no cover. The hole was the size of the bottle mouth.
