Unfortunately no, gave him to a friend among other fish. That 75 gallon was taken down when we bought a new house and had our son. The mandarin now resides in a 365 gallon paradise. We will have another one day. Had that mandarin from a baby, between 8-10 years if I can remember correctly. He ate out of the same corner every day.

That’s a mandarin success story if I’ve ever heard one! 8-10 years is great. It’s good to hear he’s still doing well in his new home.

My plan is to get one that is eating frozen, supplement with pods, as well as baby brine shrimp. I do not have a culturing setup for pods, but was hoping one eating frozen already I could get away with. I planned to do one of the 3d printed feeding setups that have been featured here.

I’d be careful with that plan. Many have tried that and it’s a very risky thing to bank on.

Even the ones that do eat frozen might not survive on it and continually search for pods. It’s best to start with a pod colony for mandarin and then slowly work them into eating other foods.

I've had my tank for 9 months and I am planning mostly around getting a mandarin. As such, I have a refugium teaming with all kinds of pods and I am still waiting for another two months to make sure there will be enough for him to eat. Start the plan now, get a refugium or some other way of introducing pods daily to the tank. In all my research on mandarins I have found that this is not a fish that you "hope for the best". In fact, I have found that even those that dedicate all this work to them still fail at keeping them.

6 line wrasse will "hoover them out" - then you'll have a very fat 6 line wrasse.

I’m doing the same thing myself right now.

I plan on getting a mandarin 6 months from now for my 65g. My sump is 30g and the fuge is 15g.

I dose 5,000 pods every two weeks and feed phytoplankton daily. I have no filter feeders or fish/inverts that eat plankton other than amphipods.

I’m also starting 4 external cultures, 2 tisbe, 2 tigger.

I will not get a mandarin until I can sustain 4 cultures reliably. There’s no way I’ll be able to keep him alive if I can’t.

Ok guys, returned to saltwater reefing about a year and a half ago. I hadn’t done it since I was a teenager And I’m now 48. I’ve heard and been told the pluses of having bristleworms which is why I have them in 2 tanks. Everything was great for a long time but now they are stinging and attempting to kill my anemones. I had some beautiful orange and rose bubbletips that are completely pitiful looking now. They have lost most of their color but I’ve gotten rid of a bunch of the worms but there are still some hiding in my live rock. I can usually only find them when I’m feeding the tank and I try to catch them but they are quick and seem to squirm free from my tweezers. I do sometimes get them out in pieces but still takes a lot and I keep seeing small ones appear. When they get big though they are a real pain. Other than the couple of fish that were referenced in a couple of prior posts do you have any other suggestions? I’m about at the point of busting up my live rock and or trying to remove my important inhabitants so I can then bleach the rock and kill them.
